Pantein Nursing group
Complete renovation of multiple sites.
iCall was implemented as a nurse-call system in 6 different locations and nursing groups across the Netherlands. The rooms at De Lookant, from the Pantein nursing group, are among those to benefit.
We implemented voice solutions in a total of 900 rooms across a variety of healthcare groups throughout the Netherlands. In De Lookant, every room was equipped with an emergency release cord in the bathroom. Hallway lights were added to illuminate emergency calls from specific rooms. The building was also equipped with SIP touch, a voice solution notifying the nurses’ station of all room calls and allowing the nursing staff to communicate hands-free with the residents using any telephone unit. The iCall solution was linked to existing facilities, like the fire-alarm system, electric sun blinds in the room and, in some cases, even to medical equipment, such as an oxygen machine, triggering an alarm in case of malfunction. In addition, some locations were equipped with a service bell, allowing residents to make a call when there is no emergency, for example, to request a glass of water. Wristbands with a wireless call button were also used in some locations.

Challenge
Given the fact that most of the projects were renovations, one of the challenges was to integrate the system with the existing cabling. This adds considerable complexity to cabling architecture, since it is necessary to tap into available access points. Furthermore, the system needed to be easy to implement, user friendly, and allow functionalities and features to be easily added to existing (Indigo) systems.
Solution
SIP touch was installed in this project and integrated in all rooms, nurses’ stations and telephone units. This voice solution combines smart cameras with a call system. It shows all notifications, including a camera image, allowing nurses to assess the seriousness of the call immediately. Residents and nurses can also use it as an intercom. The residents were also given a wristband with an emergency button (integrated with the iCall system receivers) to call for help if needed, effective in their rooms and corridors. SIP touch could also be linked to existing facilities, like the fire-alarm system, electric sun blinds in the room, and, in some cases, even medical equipment, such as an oxygen machine, triggering an alarm in case of malfunction.
Result
Due to the flexibility of the system, its easy integration and installation, each location could be quickly equipped with the required solutions, from electric blinds right down to medical equipment. It was possible to reuse the existing cabling, as well as adding new features, such as SIP touch, hall lights and an emergency release cord. The result of this project is a flexible total solution providing the opportunity to program every room individually. It also ensures that residents and nursing staff can send and/or receive (emergency) notifications at any time and wherever they happen to be in the building.
